Matthew Crowley, MD, completed his fellowship in 2011. He is currently on faculty at the Durham VA Medical Center.
Jane Schell, MD, completed her fellowship in 2011. She is now working with James Tulsky as a Palliative Care fellow.
Christina Williams, PhD, completed her fellowship in 2011. She continues to work at the Duke University School of Medicine, working in the Oncology Deptartment under the mentorship of Michael Kelley.
Melvin Echols, MD, completed his fellowship in 2010. Dr. Echols focused his research on disparities in heart failure management. He is currently an assistant professor of Medicine at the Division of Cardiology at Duke.
Ephraim Tsalik, MD, completed his fellowship in 2010. He studies novel predictors of outcomes in community- and hospital-acquired infections. He is now Assistant Professor in Duke's Department of Infectious Diseases.
Christy Boling Turer, MD, was a Health Services Research Fellow from 2008 to 2009. Her research interest was obesity. Dr. Turer is currently an instructor in the department of Pediatrics at UT-Southwestern Medical School.
Jeanette Chin, MD, completed her fellowship in 2007, studying women’s health and contraception. She is currently a visiting instructor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Utah.
Lauren Brett Caram, MD, completed her fellowship in 2007. She joined the staff at the VA Medical Center in Durham. Her specialty is Geriatric Infectious Diseases, and she continues her research with Dr. Christopher Woods, Chief of Infectious Disease at the VA and a former fellow with our Center. The title of her new study is “Prospective Respiratory Epidemiologic Surveillance Study (PRESS) – Viral Respiratory Infections in a Long-Term Care Facility Population.” This award is a joint research award from the IDSA Education and Research Foundation and the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases.
Brian Pien, MD, MPH, completed his fellowship in 2007. Dr. Pien currently has a private laboratory and clinical position in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Carla Brady, MD, MHS, completed her fellowship in 2006. Her research interests are in clinical outcomes of liver transplantation. She joined the Gastroenterology faculty at Duke University Medical Center where she continues her research.
Benjamin Powers, MD, is a general internist who completed his fellowship in 2007. His research interests are in novel strategies to better manage patients with multiple chronic illnesses. He is an assistant professor at Duke and is currently funded through a VA Health Services Research Career Development Award.
Joshua Barclay, MD, is a general internist who completed his fellowship in 2008. His research interests are in narrowing disparities in the use of hospice services. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of General Medicine, Geriatrics, and Palliative Care at the University of Virginia.
Hope Uronis, MD, is an oncologist who completed her fellowship in 2008, with a research interest in symptom management in patients undergoing cancer treatment. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Oncology at Duke.
Yousuf Zafar, MD, is an oncologist who completed his fellowship in 2008, with a research interest in symptom management in patients undergoing cancer treatment. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Oncology Division at Duke, with funding from a Clinical and Translational Research Career Development Award.
Katharine Garman, MD, is a gastroenterologist who completed her fellowship in 2008, with a research interest in novel predictors of outcomes in gastrointestinal cancer. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology.
Suneet Kaur, MD, is a general internist who completed her fellowship in 2007. Her interests are in gender disparities in pain and pain management. She is now a clinical educator at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.
Adi Cohen, MD, is an endocrinologist who finished her fellowship in 2006. Her research is in osteoporosis in young women. She is currently an assistant professor in the Division of Endocrinology at Columbia University.
Melissa Garrett, MD, is a gastroenterologist who completed the fellowship in 2006. She is currently a clinical gastroenterologist in Raleigh, NC.
Alex Cho, MD MBA, is a general internist who completed the fellowship in 2006. His research is in the communication of genetic information to patients. He is current an Assistant Professor at Duke’s Institute for Genome Sciences and Policy.
Kelvin Baggett, MD MBA, is a general internist who completed the fellowship in 2006. He is currently Chief Medical Officer for Tenet Healthcare.
Michael Mugavero, MD, is an infectious disease specialist who graduated the fellowship in 2006. His research is in HIV screening and disparities in outcomes in HIV disease. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Infectious Disease at the University of Alabama, Birmingham.
Shahnaz Sultan, MD, is a gastroenterologist who graduated the fellowship in 2005. Her research is in the effects of chronic illnesses on co-morbid gastrointestinal illness, and she is supported by an American Gastrointestinal Association Career Development Award. She is currently an assistant professor in the Division of Gastroenterology at the University of Florida.
Jay McDonald, MD, is an infectious disease specialist who graduated the fellowship in 2005. His research is in the epidemiology and prevention of hospital-acquired infections. He is currently Assistant Professor in the Division of Infectious Disease at Washington University.
Christopher Cox, MD, is a pulmonologist who graduated the fellowship in 2005. His research is in outcomes for patients undergoing long-term mechanical ventilation. He is currently an assistant professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care at Duke.
Lori Orlando, MD, is a general internist who completed the fellowship in 2004. Her research is in the cost-effectiveness of quality improvement interventions. She is currently an assistant professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine at Duke.
Susan Hedayati, MD, is a nephrologist who completed the fellowship in 2004. Her research is in outcomes of other chronic illnesses in patients with chronic kidney disease. She is currently Assistant Professor in the Division of Nephrology at UT-Southwestern Medical School.
