Training Sites


Duke University Hospital (Duke North) is a tertiary medical center and phase I trauma unit that serves North Carolina and surrounding states. The hospital has a total of 900 beds with planning underway for another hospital tower. The majority of inpatient and consultative clinical responsibilities of cardiology fellows are performed here. Inpatient cardiology services include the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), Electrophysiology, Acute Cardiology, Heart Failure, Advanced Heart Failure and Transplantation, and Structural Heart Diseases. Duke South Hospital was the original hospital at Duke and is now home to outpatient clinics, and faculty offices. It is connected to the main inpatient hospital by covered walkway and monorail system. All cardiac imaging laboratories, including the Echo, Nuclear, and Cardiac MRI labs, are based in the Duke Clinic building.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
The Durham VAMC is located directly across the street from Duke University Hospital. Faculty members who supervise at the VA are also Duke faculty members. Cardiology fellows participate in a busy, outpatient program in addition to providing consultative and cardiac imaging services to the inpatients.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Since 1998, Duke Raleigh has been an important part of Duke University Health System, and offers the services and expertise of Duke heart care to residents of rapidly growing Wake County. Cardiology fellows currently participate in clinics and procedures focused on peripheral vascular medicine at this facility.
